As I’m sure you’re all aware there has been another school shooting in the United States.
A 17-year-old student armed with a shotgun and pistol has opened fire in a Texas high school, killing nine fellow students and a teacher, authorities say, in an attack similar to the massacre at a Florida high school in February.
Thoughts and prayers were immediately dispatched…
I feel like the U.S. has tried using prayers to stop mass shootings before and it hasn’t really worked out so well. In point of fact, it hasn’t really worked at all. But apparently there are people that take the whole thoughts and prayers thing super seriously.
After a previous mass school shooting earlier this year in Florida, Republican state Senator Kelli Starge stated, in front of her peers, in public, in response to a kid shooting up his school with an assault rifle…
“When we say ‘thoughts and prayers,’ it’s frowned upon. And I take real offense at that because thoughts and prayers are really the only thing that’s gonna stop the evil from within the individual who is taking up their arms to do this kind of a massacre.”
Thoughts and prayers. Are the only thing. That’s gonna stop. This kind of massacre.
Thoughts and prayers. THE ONLY THING.
The State of Florida then immediately proceeded to do this…
…the legislature voted down part of a bill to ban assault weapons in the wake of last month’s mass shooting at a Florida high school.
Florida instead voted for a measure to arm teachers as part of Saturday’s vote on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, named after the school where 17 people were killed in a massacre February 14.
In response to this latest school shooting in Texas, current Lieutenant Governor of Texas Dan Patrick blamed everything but guns for the incident that claimed 10 lives…
“We have devalued life, whether it’s through abortion, whether it’s the breakup of families, through violent movies, and particularly violent video games.”
Abortion and video games are what allowed a 17 year old kid to shoot up his school. That’s a hot new take!
He also stated that the best way to stop a gunman was with a gun. Furthermore…
“But even better than that is four to five guns to one.”
“If everyone had guns then everyone could shoot the person with the gun!”
Sounds legit. The only solution to the United States’ gun problem is MORE GUNS. Makes perfect sense. Imagine applying that reasoning to all of life’s ills.
- There’s so many homeless in the streets. What we need is more homeless!
- My loved one has cancer? What we need is more cancer!
- I have no money to pay rent. What I need is even less money!
Ridiculous reasoning I know, but ffs man, I don’t even.
Escalation is the only solution. How do you even reason with that mentality?
